About Melissa Gibson
Connecting with a therapist that understands you allows you to build upon the relational power of healing.
I began my professional life as an Emergency Communications Dispatcher. I have always been passionate about community and supporting people through difficult times, but this began a bigger experience into managing different levels of crisis. In these situations, I saw the powerful impact of connection. My approach to therapy offers connection, the opportunity to be deeply known and cared about as your whole self, and the space to practice new approaches and grow acceptance into a more positive, loving connection with yourself and others.
I have extensive work in mediation and with teens and a love for working with families, adults, and romantic partnerships.
For relationships whether dating, living together or married, you will learn tools to communicate better, enjoy each other more while building upon your friendship and connection, learn tools to resolve conflict and get on the same page. I use the Gottman Method of Couples Therapy under the supervision of Certified Gottman Therapist, Nancy Ryan, LMFT. This is a research based couples counseling method that is very effective. Sex therapy is also part of relationships and we will work to overcome any stuck places in your sex life, improve communication and achieve the sex life that you desire. LGBTQ+ Informed
If you have suffered from trauma including neglect and/or abuse or are a First Responder or have been in a natural disaster, I can walk with you through the often uncomfortable experiences that come with these events. People who experience trauma in any of it’s forms, tend to relive experiences, have a heightened sense of vigilance, have trouble regulating their nervous systems and tend to shut down and ignore which can dull life. You are in safe hands working with me and we will work at your pace towards recovery. When looking for therapy for your teen, I can help by providing a safe space for your teen to open up. Teens often like to work with art of more advanced games to help the conversation flow. Just when they stop talking to their parents more often, a connection with their therapist can allow them a safe space to process depression, anxiety, suicide ideation, peer relationships, self-esteem and anything else that they might be struggling with.
Family Therapy can be very helpful when there are transitions in families like remarriage and blended families, struggles with connection between family members that are causing chaos in the home, or even navigating adult children/parent relationships that can be strained. Family counseling allows each person in the family to express themselves, while also learning effective communication and listening skills to improve the relationships. We work on resolving conflict, negotiating compromise and increasing connection one step at a time. Your family can feel connected again.
