“Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing that we’ll ever do” – Brene Brown
Hello and welcome! Odds are you are looking for someone to help with guiding you through the relationship you have with yourself, the relationship you have with others, and the relationship you have with the world. Therapy for most is to help you find what is disrupting the difference between who you are and who you want to be or who you are and who they are. A lot of the cliches in life such as, opposites attract, all’s well that ends well and time heals all wounds, make life and relationships seem much easier then they are. So much of the time it seems as if we believe we have figured something out only to find minutes, or sometimes years later that we really didn’t have it figured out at all…that it was an illusion.
We all have stories about where and how we became who we are, but sometimes we focus too much on the wrong events in life so we struggle needlessly. I myself, have been in many different careers, different relationships and believe I have found exactly where I am meant to be. It wasn’t easy, I had to learn how to be vulnerable, but brave, and stand alone sometimes before I found others like me.
Because I did the work myself, I understand that you need to decide for yourself what we focus on. I will give you invitations to work on things but this is your journey. We can work on perfectionism, anxiety, grief, depression, trauma, drug/alcohol problems, problem family dynamics, and relationship problems. I have worked in many different roles including as an individual, family and couples therapist for the last 10 years in a variety of environments including agencies, jails, law enforcement and county based mental health services, so odds are I have some experience that will allow me to relate to yours. I am trained in several therapy approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Gestalt, and Brainspotting, but I have found that a blend of these approaches seems to work best. When working with couples, I use the Gottman Method and am mentored by Nancy Ryan, LMFT and Certified Gottman Therapist. Our work will be collaborative and if you can see it through, you will have what you need without me as a coach to help guide you and I will carry the wisdom you shared with me to help others. The first step is deciding when you are ready……I hope to see you soon.
