About Me
“Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing that we’ll ever do” – Brene Brown
Hello and welcome! Odds are you are looking for someone to help with guiding you through the relationship you have with yourself, the relationship you have with others, and the relationship you have with the world. Consider that therapy for most people is to help you find what is disrupting the difference between who you are and who you want to be or who you are and who they are.
A lot of the cliches in life such as, opposites attract, all’s well that ends well and time heals all wounds, make life and relationships seem much easier than they are.
So much of the time it seems as if we believe we have figured something out only to find minutes, or sometimes years later that we really didn’t have it figured out at all…that it was an illusion.
I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in the Greater Sacramento area including Roseville, CA and Fair Oaks, CA. I specialize in helping couples, adults, children, teens, families who are struggling with any kind of high conflict relationships, individual or family trauma, personal struggles with anxiety, depression, perfectionism or grief.
How I Work
Because I did the work myself, I understand that you need to decide for yourself what we focus on. Most importantly, I will give you invitations to work on things but this is your journey. We can work on perfectionism, anxiety, grief, depression, trauma, drug/alcohol problems, problem family dynamics, and relationship problems. Because I have worked in many different roles including as an individual, family and couples therapist for the last 13 years in a variety of environments including agencies, jails, law enforcement and county based mental health services, odds are I have some experience that will allow me to relate to yours.
After all, I am trained in several therapy approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (ACT), Gestalt, Gottman Method Couples Therapy and Brainspotting.
But I have found that a blend of these approaches seems to work best. Our work will be collaborative and if you can see it through, you will have what you need without me as a coach to help guide you and I will carry the wisdom you shared with me to help others. The first step is deciding when you are ready……I hope to see you soon.
“The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step” – Lao Tzu
Who I Help
I provide therapy for:
- Couples seeking better connection, improved communication, recovery from affairs, and increased intimacy.
- Individuals navigating anxiety, grief, depression, codependency, addiction, perfectionism, self esteem
- Families with blended family challenges or need parent support as well as child and teen counseling
- First Responders, LGBTQ+ Informed, Addiction
My Master of Arts In Marriage and Family Therapy was received from National University. And I have 13 years of experience in various areas including trauma focused, First Responders and/or vicarious trauma, bereavement, addiction, crisis, high conflict, anger management and life stage stressors.
Because I’ve trained in Gottman Method Levels 1–3, Brainspotting, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and other treatment approaches, I can adjust to a style that best meets my client’s needs.
To learn more about people’s individuality, I became a therapist to explore the human experience and learn how to balance out the harm that so many of us experience. Of course, relationships can be healing. In fact, we all have the ability to change when we are ready and a secure environment is key to unlocking our sense of purpose and belonging. Additionally, I believe the relationship I have with my clients offers me the opportunity to learn and grow as a person and our connection is mutually beneficial.
When I’m not working, I enjoy trying new things to get out of my comfort zone, spending time with any family and fur babies and I always love a new book, podcast or audible book to learn about different perspectives in life.
“I have been working with Jennifer for multiple years and have thoroughly enjoyed her counsel and insight, the hours with her allow me to actively reflect on recent or old events in a safe space a talk through them.”
Kate W.
