As an adult, life can be challenging. Sometimes things happen that cause us trauma, some little, some bigger. Trauma is not something we can always get over by ourselves. It often takes working with a therapist who uses empathy, support, asking the right questions and providing feedback to help you get out of that stuck place. Also, when you are stuck in the worry cycle of “what if’s” and thinking the worst as well as body feelings of heart racing, being tense, feeling worried or stressed, you maybe experiencing anxiety. Feeling hopeless, down, stuck in low energy and negative thinking that is affecting you in your daily life, changes in sleep or eating, you might be experiencing depression. You don’t have to suffer alone or so long. I can help you overcome these challenges in less time than you think. Don’t put it off too long when relief is near.
For couples, if you have experienced a betrayal in your relationship and are looking to build trust again, or you have grown apart or can’t even communicate anymore, I can help you rebuild trust, connect again and improve your communication, including learning to “fight correctly.” I use the Gottman Method of Couples Counseling and have completed Level 2. Going through this researched based method will help you in all areas of your relationship, but of course we will focus on the areas most needed for your relationship or marriage. The great thing about this process is that you actually learn skills and tools to be better in all of your relationships. Learning how to communicate, stay connected, and learning to compromise where it’s not a win/lose are all skills that I can teach you. Many couples find that they improve their sex life, have fun again and feel like it’s us against the world instead of against each other.
Families can benefit from family therapy when there have been big transitions, a divorce has happened, adult children want to resolve issues with their parents or in-laws, or if there are strained relationships in the home where the current family is living. That’s a lot of personalities that don’t always get along. Sometimes it is just one person in the family that seems to be the problem, but so many dynamics go on that it takes a trained professional to sort through and guide you in the right direction. I have a lot of experience working with teens, so if that seems to be what’s happening in your home – struggles with teenagers- if can be helpful to start building a relationship with the teen, helping them through teen therapy, but I am also able to help your whole family so that there is more peace, connection, and harmony in your home.
I have worked in a business to business sales career that was very successful and I enjoyed helping people. While I learned a ton about business, people, and how the real world really works during that time, I also discovered that my true passion was learning about how to help and support people at a deeper level.
I decided to return to school at Pacifica Graduate Institute to obtain a Master of Arts in Counseling and Psychology and pursue a career as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I have multiple years of experience working with clients that have been challenged with a wide variety of issues such as depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
I have always utilized evidence-based practices and CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) in treatment, but has also been influenced by Pacifica Graduate Institute’s psychodynamic approach to relating to client’s experiences and challenges. This allows me to go a bit deeper and learn some of the patterns you learned growing up and help you create insight to those and decide it you want to keep those or not.
Besides psychology, My family and friends are very important to me and I enjoy watching football/basketball/baseball, playing poker, and watching my favorite films.
I look forward to helping you with your unique goals. You will find a judgment free, welcoming atmosphere where we can do good work!
