There is a vast difference between surviving life and thriving in life. Everyone deserves to thrive.
You worry about your child’s anxiety, depression, school or peer problems or family troubles.
You may be an individual looking for help on your path with your personal life or relationships.
You may have children together and live in separate homes, yet still need to work together.
Consider allowing me to provide a safe and compassionate space where we can examine your story and how it has been written. Let’s look at what might be happening and give you tools to thrive in life.
My name is Alexis Whedon, and I focus supporting individuals with anxiety, depression, life road blocks, and other specialties including caretakers/caretaker burnout, postpartum mothers, mothers, bariatric surgery. Counseling offers tools that you don’t otherwise get because it is such a unique relationship. The focus is you while a professional guides you by asking questions, finding your own strength, and providing new tools to look at things in a new way, to rewrite the story of your past, to find new ways of coping so that you thrive.
I also work with parents having co-parenting difficulties by walking you each through our program that helps you learn to parent effectively with your child’s parent so that the child is free to be a kid and not navigate the relationship between you two. They need to know that they are ok loving both parents and learning new ways to live in two homes. You will focus on creating a different relationship with your child’s parent to best support your child.
Child Therapy includes working with your child on his or her unique stressors, behaviors, anxieties and challenges. Whether your child has ADHD, Autism, or behavioral issues, we can use the child’s language of play. I use art, mindfulness, games, sensory toys while talking with your child to help support them, let them process what is going on, and learn coping skills to improve their behavior. If you teen is struggling with anxiety, depression, the stresses of peer pressure or anything else, Teen therapy can be helpful in getting your teen to open up and process what’s been stuck inside and also learn new coping skills that will last a lifetime.
Together we will navigate your journey. Each person is unique and has their own story. I will be a compassionate guide on your journey and use a variety of tools and skills that fit right just for you.
My training during my graduate level internship had me focusing on work with coparents, couples, individuals, children, and families that were attending court mandated therapy. I have worked with a wide variety of clients, but I was also placed at a high school, as a school based mental health provider, working with teens in the height of the pandemic navigate returning to a school setting while dealing with everyday adolescent issues and problems. I also helped in the development of behavioral intervention plans and attended meetings for Individual Educational Plans (IEP’s) and 504’s with the school district. I have worked with children and teens outside of a therapy setting for the past 15 years in different capacities. I worked with teens in the truancy court in a social work capacity. I have also worked with children and teens that suffered with chronic and terminal illnesses. I am a mother to a son with neurodivergent needs that have forced me to become an advocate navigating the school, state, and health systems.
The theoretical approaches I incorporate into my practice are person-centered therapy, child-centered therapy, trauma informed, cognitive-behavioral theory, relational-cultural therapy, narrative therapy, and multicultural therapy.
It is my belief that the client is the expert on their lives, and I am here to facilitate your journey of healing, self-discovery, and empowerment.
